Do you suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?

There is evidence that Hypnotherapy and Counselling can be beneficial for suffers of IBS but what is it? Do you suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?

IBS is a common condition that affects the digestive system.

It causes symptoms like stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. These may come and go, and last for days, weeks or months.

  • It's often a lifelong problem. It can be very frustrating to live with and impact a lot on your life.

  • There's no cure, but diet, lifestyle changes and medication can help.

  • The exact cause is unknown – it's been linked to food passing at the wrong speed through your gut, stress and family history of IBS.

IBS can also cause:

  • farting (flatulence)

  • passing mucus from your bottom

  • tiredness and a lack of energy

  • feeling sick (nausea)

  • backache

  • problems peeing – peeing often, urges to pee, feeling you cannot empty your bladder

  • not always being able to control when you poo (incontinence)

If you have had IBS for a long time and other treatments are not helping, it may be worth considering psychological therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy. These can help if stress or anxiety is triggering your symptoms and can help you cope with your condition better.
